Part D is Medicare's prescription drug coverage, offered through private plans. Each plan publishes a formulary — the list of drugs it covers and at what cost tier.
Formularies and tiers
Drugs are grouped into tiers (generic, preferred brand, non-preferred, specialty). Each tier has a different copay or coinsurance. Formularies can change every year.
When to enroll
Enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period when you become eligible — or during Annual Election (Oct 15 – Dec 7) — to avoid a late enrollment penalty.
